Melis BİNAY
International contemporary artist Melis Binay, who has been living in Barcelona for more than 2 years; was born on the 8th of March, 1987, in Istanbul. After completing her undergraduate education at Yeditepe University, Department of Art Management, she decided to make art as an artist, not a manager. She started her professional art life by taking part in the opening exhibition of the 10th Biennial in 2007. She later caught the attention of galleries in Paris, Milan, New York and was invited to the exhibitions. She participated in 9 group exhibitions in Istanbul, New York and Paris, and opened 8 solo exhibitions. She was awarded as "Promising Artist" by the Paris-Louvre Museum in an international competition she participated in in 2015. At the same time, she cooperated with many local and foreign brands, and her drawings were used by these brands in their own collections, events or promotions. In the summer of 2017, she drew on two active working freighters, one of it 195 meters in size and the other one is 165 meters. Drawing attention to global warming and climate change, which is one of the biggest problems in the world, her drawings on these ships traveled around the world ports; and she is the only female artist to draw on a working ship of this size.
She met with art lovers in Istanbul Uniq with her latest exhibition "WeNeedSpace". The exhibition visited by 15,000 people in total; some of the works of this series, which were scrutinized by gallery and art lovers in Europe and America, were sent to the cities of Los Angeles, Miami, Belgium, Barcelona, New York and London. She works mainly in Turkey, Europe and America, and her works have been picked by many artists, businessmen, football players and corporate brands; including Jean Paul Gaultier, Rita Ora, Ronald Koeman, Patti Smith, Lana DelRey, Pharrell Williams, Moby, Wiz Khalifa, Nike, Levis, Samsung, Alexander McQueen, Coca Cola, Mercedes Benz.
