Hülya Gezer was born on July 5, 1978. After graduating from Hacettepe University Faculty of Education, she completed her master's degree at Gazi University Faculty of Communication, Department of Cinema and Television. Then she went to London and while working in various film festivals for two years, she participated in training and workshops on directing, scriptwriting, editing, and shot short films.

In 2004, her short film ‘Absolutely Alive Rocketchild’ won the "Honorable Mention" at the Portobello Film Festival.

In 2004, after her return to Turkey she began her career as the assistant director with a project for TRT called ‘Ömer Seyfettin Hikayeleri’. She worked as an assistant director in many TV series and various movies such as Kırık Kanatlar, Yaralı Yürek, Behzat Ç., Köprü, Gece Sesleri. She also made a short film called ‘Kara Kaplı Kitap’ for TRT's Young Filmmakers, which was shown at various festivals.

Hülya Gezer, started her second director career with Resurrection: Ertuğrul, she sat in the director's seat of 44 episodes Yard (Avlu) and 24 episodes Hekimoğlu TV series. After directed the tv series “Yalanci” which aired on Show TV by 2021 fall season, she has been the director for Disney+’ second premiere “Dunyayla Benim Aramda” in 2022.
